About the Role

Botesdale Health Centre are looking for a professional, conscientious and highly effective Paramedic Prescriber to join our friendly team in Botesdale. This role is offered on a part-time basis, for 28.5 hours per week and involves assisting medical personnel in the care of practice patients, to include treatment, preventative care, screening and patient education.  We are also recruiting for a full time position (7426): Paramedic Prescriber in Diss - Primary Care Careers (eoeprimarycarecareers.nhs.uk)

The main responsibilities of the role include:
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) within Botesdale Health Centre.
  • Assess and triage patients, including same day triage, and as appropriate provide definitive treatment (including prescribing medications following policy, patient group directives, NICE (national) and local clinical guidelines and local care pathways) or make necessary referrals to other members of the primary care team.
  • Advise patients on general healthcare and promote self-management where appropriate, including signposting patients to the organisation’s social prescribing service and, where appropriate, other community or voluntary services.
  • Support the delivery of ‘anticipatory care plans’ and lead certain services (e.g., monitoring blood pressure and diabetes risk of elderly patients).
  • Provide an alternative model to urgent and same day GP home visit for the practice.
  • Communicate at all levels across organisations ensuring that an effective, person-centred service is delivered.
  • Communicate proactively and effectively with all colleagues across the MDT, attending and contributing to meetings as required
  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous health records appropriate to the consultation, ensuring accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient healthcare and registration with the organisation.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and, where appropriate, family members and their carers, where applicable, complex and sensitive information regarding their physical health needs, results, findings and treatment choices.
  • Being able to:
    • Perform specialist health checks and reviews within their scope of practice and in line with local and national guidance
    • Perform and interpret ECGs
    • Perform investigatory procedures as required and undertake the collection of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs and other samples within their scope of practice and within line of local and national guidance.
About the Candidate
If you are an experienced paramedic prescriber wanting a new challenge, we would love to hear from you.  You will have the following skills and experience: 
  • Be a registered paramedic, with current HCPC registration and have post-registration experience, ideally with some being in primary care;
  • Have completed a prescribing qualification.
  • Be able to effectively assess, plan, treat and refer patients;
  • Be able to evaluate patient care confidently;
  • Have experience of working to protocols and guidelines;
  • Exhibit excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills;
  • Have the ability to make clear decisions with confidence and communicate these effectively;
  • Understanding of the need to work within the parameters of one's own training and capability, according to the Health and Care Professions Council;
  • Experience of autonomous practice working and multi-professional team working;
  • Can demonstrate due regard for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Can demonstrate a broad and sound knowledge of complex and common conditions in primary care in both adults and children.
About Us
We are a rural GMS 9900 patient surgery with 4 partners, 4 salaried GPs, 2 paramedics and a fantastic mixed clinical and practice team with an on-site dispensary. We are located in a modern, recently extended surgery with community nurses located on site as well as an X-ray suite and glorious surrounding countryside.
